Williams Group Project, Flinders Clifftop House

Material: Blackbutt

Profile: Deep Two Step External Timber Cladding

The Williams Group build some of the Mornington Peninsula’s finest modern architectural homes. Neil and Luke run a team of highly experienced carpenters dedicated to building to the highest standards.

Their most recent project, the Flinders Clifftop house is a large, contemporary build set right on the cliff overlooking Bass Straight.

It’s one of the wildest, most exposed locations you could find.

Luke was keen to use a durable, hardwearing Australian hardwood for much of the outer façade and external eaves. The home owner also wanted a cladding profile that was a little different from the normal shiplap.

External Timber Cladding

We recommended Blackbutt as it fulfilled the brief and also met the BAL-29 fire rating requirements for a build abutting a National Park. For the profile, we worked with our supplier and came up with a couple of variations on the Two Step profile.

The first being used for the external cladding and the second for the eaves. Our first profile was 88mm x 42mm. The extra thickness allowed us to produce a really striking, deep shadow line. Our Eave profile was thinner at 88mm x 19mm and gave a softer look

In order to maximise protection from moisture and the elements we gave each profile a coat of Cutek Oil.

Although a great deal of shiplap was installed with concealed fixing, we felt it was better to err on the side of caution and face fix the profile, especially the external cladding.

As you can see from the photos, it’s an impressive result!
